Chapter 11

Ben’s Study, Champion Ranch, Blue Ridge Mountains

Alone, in the early hours of the night, I wander down the dark corridors of the Champion Ranch, trying to work out the secret.

I glance at my watch: 2:00

No one should be up at this time. Well unless, they’re stumbling out of a club, happily buzzed on cocktails. Then it’s my favorite time of the night.

But not now.

My heart is beating too fast, and I’m on the alert.

I hug my lace crimson nightgown more tightly around myself against the chill, and my bare feet are freezing on the pine floor. Each step kicks up dust.

I guess my new Alphas have many talents, but cleaning isn’t one of them.

Earlier, when we all tumbled into bed together in the main bedroom, the only truly clean thing in the room was the cozy black bedding.

It felt so right, the way that I lay in the middle, as Jex wrapped his long legs around me, nuzzling against my neck on one side, breathing in my scent, as he slowly relaxed. At the same time, Ben slid in on the other side of me, spooning me.

Ben’s arms firmly held me around my middle, and I loved feeling his warmth against my back, and his calming, slow breath against the back of my neck.

His rich whiskey scent combined with Jex’s sweet cinnamon bun aroma was so perfect that I was desperate to taste both at once.

I kissed Jex, deep and drugging. Then I twisted and indulged myself kissing Ben over my shoulder, while Jex’s taste was still in my mouth.

Lying in these men’s arms was better than I could ever have imagined.

Then I looked up and caught sight of the hungry way that Saint was standing at the bottom of the bed, watching us together in his bed.

And that was even more perfect.

These three men were perfect.

My cheeks flushed, as the Chief Alpha crawled over the bed and slotted behind Jex.

“Is this okay, darlin’?” He checked in.

Jex wriggled, sleepily. “I’m a cuddler in bed. Ask my Angel. It’s okay. I want to be the little spoon too.”

Saint huffed a laugh, but this was amazing.

Jex was asking to be held and touched by an Alpha.

He was letting himself be vulnerable enough to sleep in an Alpha’s arms.

This was more intimate than sex.

I bit my lip, as Saint slung his arm over Jex, resting his hand on my hip, until all four of us were connected.

Jex didn’t flinch. Instead, he nuzzled back against my neck, closing his eyes.

Saint’s eyes were dark as they met mine for a long moment.

“Night, my pack,” Saint whispered.

My heart leaped.

Pack.

This was everything that I’d ever wanted.

Only, something made me wake up in the middle of the night. A niggling sensation that something was wrong or missing.

A chill spread through me, and I peered through the dark, panicking when I realized that there was an empty space on the bed, where Ben should have been.

Why was he missing?

Had he just gone to the bathroom?

Or was he at the heart of the mystery?

I lay with my heart hammering against my ribs.
